HOMILY FOR THE TWENTY-FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR C

BY REV. AUGUSTINE ADETOLA

The 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C, reminds us to choose God over money. Money is important, but it should never be placed above the love for God. The readings speak about justice, prayer, and being faithful with what we have. They call us to live with honesty and care for others, not just to seek wealth or comfort.

God sees how we treat the poor and weak. He pays attention to it. Sometimes, we ride on people because we feel they are too gentle or nice. Amos warns those who cheat the poor that God will not forget their actions. Psalm 113 shows that God lifts up the lowly and cares for those who are in need. This shows His love for those who trust Him.

God has a deep concern for the poor, and he condemns dishonesty and greed. The first

reading highlights how some people exploit others for personal gain, showing disregard for justice and fairness. God sees these actions and warns of consequences for those who harm the vulnerable. We are challenged to reflect on our own attitudes and actions. Do we treat others fairly? Are we attentive to the needs of the poor and those who cannot defend themselves? God calls us to a higher standard, one rooted in justice and love.

Caring for the poor is not just a good deed; it reflects God’s own care for humanity. As

disciples, we are called to reflect His goodness by helping those in need. Whether through small acts of kindness or larger efforts to support the vulnerable, we can show the world that God’s justice and mercy are real. This is one of the powers of a community. A community seeks to help and offer support to everyone. Faith is not just personal but also communal. When we pray for leaders and others, we are not only seeking better governance but also showing our trust in God’s plan. This act of prayer unites us with others and reminds us of our role in fostering peace and justice.

In the Gospel, Jesus tells a story about a manager who uses his position to prepare for

the future. He teaches that we cannot serve both God and money. We need to examine

our choices and remind ourselves to place God first in all things. This parable challenges us to think about our own use of resources. Everything we have comes from God, and we are stewards of His blessings. Do we use what we have wisely? Do we share generously, or do we hold on tightly, thinking only of ourselves?

Jesus teaches that if even the greedy can recognize the benefits of generosity, His

disciples should be even more willing to give. Our faith calls us to be kind and

compassionate, not for personal gain, but because we know that God has given us

everything. By sharing with others, we reflect God’s love and fulfill His call to care for

those around us. Lord, help us to be faithful stewards of Your blessings. Teach us to care

for the poor, to pray for peace and justice, and to share what we have with those in need.
